The short answer: at least once a week. That's the minimum we recommend for every pool we service in Santa Clarita and the surrounding area. Here's why weekly matters, when twice a week makes more sense, and what local conditions mean for your pool.
Why Weekly Pool Service Is the Minimum
Your pool's chlorine is always being used up. Sun, heat, swimmers, leaves and dirt all burn through it. A weekly visit tops it back up and rebalances the water before anything has a chance to grow.
Weekly service also means someone is looking at your pump, filter and heater every seven days. Small problems get caught while they're still small.
When Twice a Week Pool Service Makes Sense
Some of our clients get two visits a week. It usually comes down to one of three things.
- A large pool. More water uses more chemicals and collects more debris between visits.
- A big tree near the pool. A steady load of leaves brings phosphates, uses up chlorine and clogs the filter.
- Your preference. Some homeowners want the pool looking perfect every few days, especially when they swim or host often.
What Happens When a Pool Goes Too Long Without Service
The chlorine goes first. Without a weekly top off, it can drop to zero. Once it's gone, algae starts to grow, the water turns cloudy, and then it turns green.
Bringing a green pool back takes far more chemicals, filter work and time than keeping it clear in the first place. Weekly service is the cheaper path.
If your water has already started to haze over, our guide to clearing cloudy pool water walks through what causes it and how we fix it.
What Your Area Means for Your Pool
Santa Clarita. In our experience, Santa Clarita pools tend to run high in phosphates. Phosphates feed algae, so even a pool with good chlorine can start to haze if they build up. Regular testing catches them early. Learn more about our pool service in Santa Clarita.
Calabasas. Calabasas pools take a beating from the heat. High temperatures burn off chlorine faster, which is exactly why skipping a week hurts more there. See our pool service in Calabasas.
Agoura Hills. We service pools throughout Agoura Hills too, with the same weekly routine. See our pool service in Agoura Hills.
What a Weekly Pool Service Visit Includes
Here's what happens on every weekly visit.
Skim and empty the baskets
We clear leaves and debris off the surface and empty the skimmer and pump baskets so water flows freely to the filter.
Brush the walls, steps and floor
Brushing knocks loose the film where algae likes to start, before you can see it.
Vacuum the pool
We vacuum the floor to pull out dirt and debris that settled during the week.
Test and balance the water
We test chlorine, pH, alkalinity and more, then balance it. Chemicals are included in our weekly plans.
Check the equipment
We look over the pump, filter and heater every visit so small problems get caught early.
Send you a report
You get a report after every visit, so you always know what we did and what we found.
What You Should Do Between Visits
Ideally, nothing. That's the point of weekly service. But two quick checks help.
- The chlorine puck. Glance at the floater or chlorinator to see if the puck needs replacing.
- The equipment. Make sure the pump and filter are running normally.
If something with your equipment doesn't look or sound right, don't wait for the next visit. Call us immediately. Catching equipment problems early almost always saves money.
